Our Wedding Reception

As most of you know, D and I got married in May down in Las Vegas in his parent’s back yard. We always wanted a small intimate ceremony but felt like we wanted to celebrate with all those that we love and care about in our life so my mom threw us an amazing reception in Seattle this past weekend.

I’ve talked about my mom off and on here and you may know already that my mom is very talented. She took our style and incorporated it into the party details and everything turned out beautiful. I wanted to share with you a little bit of that night by showing you some of the photos I was able to quickly capture before our guest started to arrive and a few from during the party.

{Pictures are not the best quality as I only had my little point and shoot or my phone and they aren’t in any particular order}

My mom put so much into each detail it was so much fun walking around looking at everything.

The party was in my parents beautiful back yard. They live on a hill side in West Seattle over looking the Puget Sound but this is their little sweet courtyard.

And some of the most important people in my life, my ‘God’ family. They were all literally at the hospital when I was born and my brothers and I grew up with them as a family over the last 32 years.

I love these two pictures. My mom with all her kids.

Left Picture starting from left: My younger brother Nick, David, and my older brother Tyler with my mom

Right Picture starting from left: Kerri (Tyler’s wife), Robyn (Nick’s NEW fiance), mom , and of course, me

One of my mom’s best friends made these adorable sugar cookies with the pastel frosting. Wish I could have tasted one!

The party favors my mom made were little jars full of custom made M&Ms that said Omero Cellars, our winery name.

My mom made these three boards with pictures from our lives and our life together. Since we live in Oregon not many people have been able to see where I now live so it was fun being able to show everyone.

The party was catered and the food was a hit! For some of the decorations my mom took some old window frames she had and used paper and ribbon to decorate them in our party colors. They were ADORABLE! And the old crate below I am rather obsessed with. Unfortunately my mom wouldn’t give it to me but she vowed to leave it to me in her will. (a joke between her and I)

My mom made these adorable tea light lanterns out of mason jars, green lentils and ribbon.

And we had a Champagne toast with a homemade blackberry sauce in it. It’s was delicious!

Of course, me and the hubs. One of the few moments we actually got to be side by side that night.

David and his new brothers :)

These beautiful ladies have been in my life since around 4th grade.

{From left: Liz, Brooke, Me, Tracy and Steph…PS-Tracy and Steph are twins!}

And last but not least, we brought home a new addition to our family. COLEMAN! Unfortunately, my good family friend can’t keep her English Bulldog and D and I said we would give him a trial run and if everything works out, we will have a new pup on the farm. He will get to spend a lot of time in our tasting room and will love it! And we thought having another Bulldogs around these neck of the woods was just too fitting!

We had such an amazing weekend and everything was perfect. I couldn’t ask for a better way to end our wedding adventures…well, except for our overdue honeymoon which we will be taking August 28th to Sept 4th in Cabo San Lucas Mexico!

Feature Friday

Hey Friends! Right now I am back in Seattle for our wedding reception that my mom is throwing for us. I can hardly wait to show you all of the beautiful details she has spent the last few months working on. My momma is seriously one talented lady!

Here are this weeks Feature Fridays!

Feature Friday: Current Blog Obsession

{aka}designs

I stumbled upon {aka} designs the other day and I can’t remember how but I am sure glad I did! I absolutely love designing duo’s style!  Shannon and Dean  write about their adventures in all things DIY, thrifty decorating and organizational tips and offer the occasional recipe as well. And get this, Shannon even wrote an eBook called, Welcome Home found here.

Whole browsing through their blog, I found so many inspring projects I’d love to recreate like their Reclaimed Wood Headboard and their fun Vintage Bakery Sign.

Their little bungalow is adorable. Take a tour here.

{aka} designs can also be found on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest too!

Stop by and say hi and take a look around their little space in the bloggy world!

Feature Friday: Instagram

Our pups make me crack up. They both have very distinct personalities and they are the sweetest things ever. This is Maddy, our pit bull mutt. I think Pits get a pretty bad rap. Yes, there are some out there that our mean but I believe that goes for most all breeds. Every pit I’ve met have been the kindest souls and that definitely goes for our Maddy. This little ‘chocolate bunny’ as my hubby calls her loves to sprawl out and relax in the grass chewing on her rock, stick, bone you name it! Sometimes I just go out there with her and we lay together in the grass watching all that goes on around us. She’s my sweet sweet girl.

Feature Friday: Barnwood Tables Inspiration

I recently purchased an old table from an antique store in Newberg, the town in which I live in. It has great legs but a maple wood top that I’m not too keen on. I thought this would be a fun was to try and get that barnwood table we’ve been wanting forever…DIY style!

Here are a few pictures that inspire me.

I love the idea of adding a bench to one side of the table!

It may be a little bit before I actually have time to get around to it. I still haven’t even finished our living room wall yet. But, I have the table, and all I need it to find the wood!

Happy Friday and I hope you all have a great weekend!

Things I Learned from Camping Part One

I didn’t grow up camping but have been about a dozen times in my life. D and I had talked a lot about making the most out of summer and getting outside as often as we could, exploring this lovely state we live in.

So, what better way then to pack up our sleeping bags and tent along with a few other essentials and as D would say, ‘hit the ol’ dusty trail.’

Our first camping trip was about three weeks ago. Since we didn’t have a tent yet, D had been researching ways to convert the back of his pickup truck into an area that we could put our sleeping pads and sleeping bags and rest our heads for the night. After some research on the internet he came up with this:

You sleep on the top and put all of your gear {dry food, cookware, camping stuff, etc} below.

D and I also realized that we needed to be pretty organized because the whole idea was that on any given weekend we could literally decide last-minute to pack up and go camping. So we bought plastic containers and labeled them appropriately as such:

And filled them with our goodies…

One of D’s favorite things to do while camping is cook meals over the fire so we came up with what we were going to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

To save space I combined the ingredients that I could and put them in jars and plastic containers.

Once we were all set, we packed up the truck and bright and early the next morning we took off for the McKenzie River. D had a couple campgrounds in mind but as we pulled in we quickly found that we may have a problem. Most of the campgrounds were already reserved. Crap, lesson number ONE! So, we turned around and headed to the ranger station about a mile back to ask them if they had any recommendations for where we might camp. The ranger told D that there were tons of old logging roads and we could turn down any of then and camp. He pointed us in the direction of what he thought was a good one right on the river and off we went.

When we arrive we quickly found that this ranger was right. It was exactly what I always envisioned camping to like. Out in the middle of nowhere. The kind of camping that required a shovel if you know what I mean.

We decided this what exactly what we were looking for and we began to set up camp.

By the time we were all set up it was close to dinner time and on the menu tonight was vegan chili!

One of D’s new toys is this cast iron pot. It’s really fun to cook in!

Here is the vegan chili simmering. By the way, both D and I agreed that this was by far the best chili we have ever had! Maybe I should share it on the blog!

After dinner was finished and the dishes were done, I decided to try to squeeze in a little reading before it got dark.

and then, we went to bed.

The next morning we woke pretty early and already had the plan to go on a long hike with the pups. We took what we needed and left what we didn’t, each secretly hoping it would be there when we returned.

We headed back to the ranger station to ask them for a good trail and he pointed us in the direction of one that went up to an alpine lake and since I absolutely love hiking, especially when there is a lake at the top, I was really excited to see where this was going to take us.

When we got to the trail head we parked and looked at the map. We decided that an 8 mile out and back would be good and figured out where the turn around we be, locked up the truck and headed on our way, leaving the map in the truck. Lesson number THREE! Never leave the map in the car!

The hike was beautiful. Exactly what I had been needing. I grew up just off the I-90 corridor in a suburb of Seattle called the Samammish Plateau and at one point in my life I was going hiking up to four days a week. There was a trail right outside of Issaquah near where I lived, and I would drive out there in the early morning, hike the trail as fast as I could, and return home to get ready for work. I also grew up going hiking with my dad.  I realized how much I missed hiking as we started getting deeper into the forest. It was incredible!

And we finally figured out how long it takes Maddy to get tired. You see, this little pup is like the Energizer Bunny, she keeps going and going and going until you hit 11 miles. Then she’s done. We also discovered she is scared of bridges. D had to carry her over all of them and there were about five or six.

After 12 1/2 miles, two tired dogs, no lake, and one yours truly nearly breaking her leg, we arrived back at our truck, tired, happy, hungry, and ready to sit on our bums around the fire.

After dinner we ate smores made from vegan marshmallows, gluten-free graham crackers {which are super yummy!}, and decadent coconut dark chocolate.

Later that evening as we were settling down I noticed headlights driving down the dirt road towards our campground. This wasn’t necessarily anything out of the ordinary, when we arrived at the campsite there was a nice fire pit already made so I am sure it was a site that had people camping there often. As the car got closer I noticed it was driving slow and the windows were tinted. The car was a bright purple-pink Buick looking thing and as it crept by I got an intense feeling or women’s intuition if you will. The Buick drove by slowly and began to turn around. I could tell it was creeping D out too as we both stood there holding the dogs back as this hooptie pulled a three-point turn and slowly drove off. We sat there for a minute and then looked at each other with similar looks on our faces. That. was. weird. We sat back down by the campfire and tried to pretend that we had put it behind us but I just couldn’t shake the creepy feeling. D and I talk about other things, funnier things, but all the while I couldn’t get the purple-pink Buick out of my mind.

As the last bit of light tucked behind the tall evergreens, D started to put out the fire and we got the dogs in their warm jackets and put them away in their kennels for the evening. Then we both climbed into the back of the truck and crawled into our sleeping bags. As I laid there thinking to myself D asked me what was wrong. At first I said nothing but then after a little pressing I told him I was really scared. The car really freaked me out and I couldn’t shake this really intense feeling that something wasn’t right. He tried to reassure me that everything was fine. He said it was probably just kids looking for a place to party. I nodded trying to convince him I believed what he was saying but he could tell I wasn’t going to sleep well tonight.

“Do you want to leave?”

“No.”

“Babe, do you want to leave cause we can if you want to?”

“Don’t be made but {very long pause} but yes.”

“Okay. Let’s pack up.”

It’s was 9:20 pm. We jumped out of the back of the truck, packed up everything, got the dogs in the back seat of the truck and were on the road for the three-hour drive by 9:38 pm.We arrived him just before 1 am.

Lesson number four. Well, this is a two-part one; a) always listen to your instincts and b) never let me watch another episode of Criminal Minds again. Ever!

Stay tuned for Part Two next week! Camping on the Metolius River.

Guest Post Opportunities + Bob Red Mills Gluten Free Gift Set Winner!

Good Morning! Happy Monday to you all! Did you have a fun weekend? We did! D and I went camping over in Central Oregon and let me tell you, our weekend was packed with so much fun we were exhausted last night when we crawled into bed at 8:45! Yep, you read that right! I’m working on a post right now highlighting the things we did as well as a few tips on camping I’ve discovered the last two times we went. Stay tuned!

Today I get to announce the winner of the Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Gift Set!  A HUGE thank you to Bob’s Red Mill for giving one of you the gluten free gift set of the following:

~ Bob Red Mills Gluten Free Whole Grain Bread Mix

~ Bob Red Mill’s Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix

~ Bob Red Mills Gluten Free Biscuit Mix

And the lovely winner is…drum roll please…

Meredith M.

Congrats Meredith! Check your email for one from me!

I love doing giveaways and promoting your business. If you are interested in working with me, please send an email to Amanda at [email protected]

And in other news, I’ve been seeing a trend happening in the bloggy world. Some of my favorite blogs have recently written post on their decision to either stop blogging, get back to the carefree, laid back side of it, or scale it back big time. I think what some people don’t realize is how much actually goes into blogging. D is often so surprised with how much time I spend sitting at my computer, working on a project, editing photos or making friends with all of you that I can understand why some bloggers have decided to take a sabbatical or just let it go all together. Even if you love it, as most of us do, it’s so easy to get caught up in it and forget that their is a whole world going on around you that you need to get out an enjoy.

Well, I’m not going anywhere other then several trips over the course of the next two months and that is why I’m writing this. Instead of not blogging regularly over the next few months I am having an open call for guest blog post from YOU! I figure if I don’t have the time to write then it would make me so happy to have several of you sharing a bit about your life on Bullfrogs and Bulldogs.

So here is what I am looking for:

If you have a blog, I’d love to get about 6-8 of you submit a guest post  for over the course of the next two months. Post can be about anything and the only thing I ask is if you want to share a recipe that you offer vegan and gluten free options as well. I gotta stay true to who I am and what I believe in, you know?

If you have a business, I’d love to promote you on Bullfrogs and Bulldogs by either hosting a giveaway or just sharing a post all about you!

If you are interest, please email me at the email found just above. I’d love to know more about you and hare YOU with my readers! I would need all post by August 22nd.

Can’t wait to work with you!

Hi Everyone! It’s that time again, Friday! Hope you all have some fun weekend plans. D and I are heading over to the Bend area to do a little bouldering, camping, hiking and just hanging out together. I can’t wait!

Hometalk

Well, it’s not exactly a blog but it is definitely worth checking out. Hometalk is a network for homeowners and renters and anyone interesting in the topic of home and garden. You get to share and ask questions about anything related to those topics and it’s such an awesome community. When you create a profile, you can share anything you want whether it is a new project you are working on or you can search for something particular. It’s a wonderful network of like minded people who share and encourage others.

Feature Friday: Instagram Photo

This photo still cracks me up. Earlier this week D and I both went to Whole Foods without the other knowing it and came home with the exactly same thing. Five cans of slice black olives, one larger can of pitted green olives, and two cans of my favorite coconut milk. Its that true love or what?!

Guest Ready Bathrooms with Kleenex Hand Towels

Ah, our guest bathroom. It is, for lack of a better word, creepy. I’m going share a little bit with you and to be honest, I can’t believe I am going to show you this! I have big dreams for this bathroom one day and hopefully I will see these dreams come true sooner rather than later.

Here is a little look into our navy blue and white checkered tiled counter top with navy and white checkered linoleum floor bathroom. See, so pretty, huh?

I can’t help but get a little guest bathroom envy when I see ones on Pinterest like these below. Bright and cheery, not dark and dreary.

So what exactly am I thinking when the joyous day comes that I get to remodel our guest bathroom? Here are some ideas:

New sink and counter – something like this

Get a new bathtub and remove doors and add new shower curtain {maybe something like this}

Or this…

And I’m thinking about making a fun DIY wooden crate for our Kleenex Hand Towels for when guest come so they don’t have to use the same hand towel over and over again!
I’m thinking something like this:
I want to make it as bright and cheery as possible. What do you think? How do YOU think I should re-due out guest bathroom?

Sneak Peek of Entryway Updates

I was feeling a little restless last week and I really wanted to do something about our entryway. It is the first place people enter in your home after all and ours tends to be dark and drab.

I’m loving stripes right now and they seem to be popping up everywhere. I thought this was the perfect place to incorporate them into our home since it smaller and would add a bold statement.

This is the beginning of a few more changes, for example, I’d love to get a new door on the entryway closet, do a few things INSIDE the closet and finish up changing out the trim plus, we have some plans to add some more fun stuff to the walls.

For now, here is a little peek into what I did get around to do last week. And don’t worry, I only have one more project to do in the living room then I can show you all the changes I’ve made in there!

Here is the before:

And here is the after!

So what exactly did I change?

1. I added stripes to the walls. The darker color is called Bittersweet Stem which is the color throughout our house. I added a lighter color which looks like white but is actually only two or three shades lighter then the Bittersweet Stem.

2. I finally had D’s cousin patch up the hole that was made behind the door from the dogs pushing open the door with their noses! Now we just need to get a door stop!

3. And finally, I painted an old table D had before I moved in and believe it or not, D was the one who suggested the blue. He asked if I’d paint it a brighter color since I tend to lean towards neutrals. This is called Watery and I absolutely love it! I from the living room into the entryway and added some decor I had lying around the house.

What do you think? I can’t wait to finish some of the other projects I have in mind!

Avocado and Herb Cashew Cheese Empanadas + TWO AWESOME GIVEAWAYS!

{Make sure you read all of the post, especially the second half because today I have two opportunities to win some of Bob Red Mill’s amazing products!)

I’ve been using Bob Red Mill  products for as long as I can remember, even prior to giving up gluten. They are seriously delicious and both D {who’s not GF} and I love using them whether we are cooking or in my case, baking.

I want to give Bob Red Mill’s a huge thank you for sending me some fun gluten free products to play with! Early next week you will see something else I whipped up from using their Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Mix. So stay tuned!

For today, I’m sharing my Avocado and Herb Cashew Cheese Stuffed Empanadas. I was craving something comforting and decided to try Bob Red Mill’s Gluten Free Biscuit Mix and came up with this little concoction. One word: DELICIOUS! We had some friends over last week and I served these and everyone was quite pleased {and full} after gobbling down several of these. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what they tasted like but D nailed it on the head. Chicken Pot Pie!

They were pretty easy to make and here is what you’ll need:

~ Bob Red Mill’s GF Biscuit Mix ( I only used half of the mix)

~ 1 egg or in my case,  an egg supplement. I used Ener-G Egg Replacer.

For Filling:

~ 1 Avocado

~ 1/2 cup cashews soaked in water for 1 hour or longer

~ Fresh Basil, Oregano, and Thyme

~ 1/2 lemon

~3 tbsp nutritional yeast

~water

How to Make:

1. To make Bob Red Mill’s GF Biscuit Mix, follow the instructions on the back of the package.

2. Mash up 1/2 an avocado and set aside

To Make Cashew Cheese:

Drain cashews and put in blender and add all other ingredients. I used fresh Basil and Thyme and added to taste and then I added in about 2 tsp dried oregano. Mix all ingredients until mixture is of a creamy consistency and pour into a separate bowl.

To Assemble Empanadas:

Roll out dough and using a round cookie cutter or in my case, a mason jar, cut out a circle. Continue to roll out until it is thin and somewhat oval. Place a small amount of mashed avocado and a dollop of the Herb Cashew Cheese and fold over the biscuit mix. To secure, use a fork and press down all the way around

Place on a wire cookie tray. Repeat this process until biscuit mix is used up.

Place wire tray on baking sheet and into the oven at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Serve warm with either hot sauce or another form of dipping sauce.

Enjoy!

And now for the good stuff…free stuff!

Bob Red Mill’s is giving one of YOU a gift set of all three of these items! Yay!

Tongue Ticklers

I was searching for things to do with pie cherries the other day (see picture below and you’ll know why) and I came across a vegan {and often gluten free} food blog. My first thought was, ‘wow, she takes incredible pictures.’ I love inspiring photos of food and for me, this is one area I’d like to get better at in my photo taking skills.

Harini, the woman behind the blog, lives in a suburb just outside of Mumbai and documents her play with food through incredible recipes and lovely photos of her culinary creations. All though not all recipes on her blog are India, you can definitely find a vast array of them features here so if you are like me and LOVE Indian food, you are luck!

Harini’s explanation as to why she is vegan is thought provoking and honest and something I’ve been wanting to write about on here for awhile. You can find it here.

All in all, Tongue Ticklers is a food blog anyone can gain inspiring recipes from so you should definitely stop by and browse for awhile!

We have several different fruit trees on the property. Although we’ve let most go and the fruit isn’t really edible, these pie cherries sure are. What should I make with them?
