Quick and Easy Upcycled Placemats

If you are a follower of My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia then you saw my guest post there of my transformation of some old placemats D and I had that I felt no longer were a reflection of us.

Don’t get me wrong, there was a time I found them adorable but now, since we don’t eat meat or use any product that contains animal byproducts, I felt this was rather hypocritical of us to keep them the way they are. But, I love burlap anything and didn’t necessarily want to loose the look in our dinning area.

So, I turned them over and had the blank burlap showing. But started to feel like our dining room was a tad bit boring and wanted to add a little something to the placemats.

and I came up with this!

Some simple stripes.

It was a very quick and easy project and the perfect way to add a little change to something old.  All you need is a stencil, paint, and a dauber and of course the placemats.

I began by measuring out how far off the edge I wanted the lines and laid the stencil in place. To hold he stencil in place I used masking table on either end. Once secure, dip the dauber in paint and being dabbing over the stencil while holding it down with your other hand.

When I was finished with one line I moved it over about a half an inch and started the second. Quick Tip: Wipe off any excess paint on the stencil before moving it over to make sure no unwanted paint gets on the placemat.

This is what the final lines should look like and the great thing is, it doesn’t have to be perfect because you are going for a bit of a rustic look anyway!

It really was very quick and easy and I love the subtle change it brings to our dinning room!
