Those Mean and Nasty Hackers

Hi friends. I wanted to post today because as some of you know, over the corse of the last month I’ve been getting hacked and someone is somehow getting onto my blog, registering as an admin user, writing and publishing post. I tend to be an early riser and so fortunately I catch most of them but not always. I am working with someone to fix this.

This is unbelievably violating not to mention frustrating. Personally I feel whoever is doing this needs to get a life.

I know I’m not alone as I’ve seen quite a few post from people having issues with others stealing their posts and using them as their own. When will people learn that this is not ok?

I can’t thank you all enough for being patient with me as I resolve this. If you’ve dealt with something like this I’d love to hear from you.

Thank you!

    Hi Amanda
Eeeeeeek, I had no idea. If you get stuck, contact @WaylayDesign – they are my computer guru’s and they are BRILLIANT at solving just about anything. They may be able to help you for free/little cost/ or just leave a tip in their website tip jar. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I hope that helps.
    Big hugs!

  2. Hi Amanda,
I saw Lynne had retweeted your post so I just thought I’d stop by and offer my 2 cents. If you’re working with someone that is somewhat technically inclined, you can protect your admin login page by modifying the .htaccess file with a simple snippet of code:

    order deny,allow
allow from 202.090.21.1 (replace with your IP address)
    deny from all

This snippet of code will allow only logins from your IP. If you have a dynamic IP address you may have to change this from time to time to make sure that you yourself aren’t denied access, but it’s a lot easier than chasing hackers all day and only takes a second to update.

In regards to the copying of your posts and using them as their own, unfortunately this is a problem that will never go away and little can be done to prevent it. However, there are services such as Copyscape that will check your pages for duplicate content across the web. You can also get a free Copyscape button to display in your footer that says “Protected by Copyscape. Do Not Copy”.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I hope you get it all worked out. Thanks for the plug Lynne! Much appreciated as always :)
